The title "Afternoon Tea"  alludes to the passage of time and the coming end of the day. In the same way that the Doomsday Clock is approaching midnight, this scene is intended to have surreal and possibly apocalyptic suggestions. The back-to-back stools and side tables can be interpreted as visual palindromes, adding a sense of riddle or esoteric mystery.

The second part of the title Never odd or even is a palindrome. Palindromic phrases and numbers are about symmetry yet our palindromic furniture shapes are half buried and allude to a concern about the symmetry in nature being disrupted or disturbed by human activity. We also hope that the sculpture has a certain amount of playful ambiguity which could lead to a variety of other narratives (naughty dogs, animal tea parties, a raft in a flood, etc.)
